Big Data is one of the worst industry terms ever invented. Not only does it poorly describe the increasingly critical role data plays in our lives, but it has created an obsession with the exact wrong parameter: volume of data.
It’s easy to see why we have created a fetish of data volume. Over the past few years, it has become extraordinarily cheap to store data, both because of plummeting hardware costs and the rise of software technologies like Hadoop.
