Cities are the hearts and souls of our nations, driving our global economy. With citizen expectations rising, and cities under significant pressure from forces such as rapid urbanisation, modernisation mandates and economic austerity, the need to take a different approach is clear.
Fortunately, innovations such as cloud computing, mobility, big data and social technologies give cities the ideal platforms to do this. It goes beyond upgrading infrastructure – cities must focus on the people at their core to unleash their potential and be the destinations of the future.
This week, I’m at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona to discuss the challenges cities face today with private and public sector leaders, and how technology can support European cities as they look to address these issues.
