The term “Business Intelligence” (BI) was originally coined in 1865 by Richard Millar Devens in the “Cyclopaedia of Commercial and Business Anecdotes” and Devens used it to describe how the banker Sir Henry Furnese gained profit by receiving and acting upon information about his environment. Today, BI represents tools and systems that allow a company to gather, store, access and analyze corporate data to aid in decision-making and strategic planning process.
