The data analytics giant Teradata on Tuesday announced it had acquired two two companies: Hadapt and Revelytix that have built tools that make it easier to analyze data sitting in the Hadoop file system, which can store lots of different kinds of data.

“We welcome Revelytix and Hadapt employees to Teradata and we look forward to their contributions in helping Teradata Labs accelerate delivery of big data solutions for our customers,” said Scott Gnau, president of Teradata Labs, in the release.

Revelytix has made advances in data munging — a burdensome, time-consuming step people must take before using business intelligent tools and other applications. And Hadapt built a tool for running SQL queries on data in Hadoop. It’s unclear exactly how these will be integrated with Teradata’s hardware for operating data warehouses and its Hadoop boxes.

By purchasing the two big data companies, it appears Teradata is staying the course on its mission to embrace Hadoop and other big data technologies in order to provide a bridge to its data warehouse systems.
