A report on analytics in healthcare from CDW Healthcare indicates that the adoption of big data analytics technologies is a top priority for the majority of hospitals currently and the top motivational factors driving analytics are: the rising cost of healthcare (59%), Medicare/Medicaid EHR incentive programs (44%) and accountable care (41%). Nearly one in five hospitals are already succeeding in reaping rewards from their analytics programs, and the majority of organizations are taking actions to follow in their footsteps.

The good news, the report says, is that many of the organizations that have begun tapping into analytics are seeing the payoff.  For example, 82% of respondents using analytics are seeing clinical benefits, including improved patient care, while 54% are realizing “improved financial reporting capabilities.”

The report surveyed 150 healthcare decision makers to determine where organizations stand in the analytics implementation process, what benefits and challenges exist and how they can plan for the future of analytics.
